Mitsui Babcock
Client Challenge
Mitsui Babcock needed to dismantle, relocate and re-assemble a business critical Coal Burning test facility. New maintenance requirements also needed to be designed and built into the new installation.
JBD Tritecs Solution
JBD Tritec designed a new furnace support structure, capable of supporting the 20 tonne burner plus ancillary parts. To provide access for maintenance, we also designed and fitted access platforms and stairways, providing a significant improvement to the existing facilities. The installation included:
- Developing designs and drawings
- Fabrication of structural steelwork in the JBD Tritec workshop, which was shot blasted and finish painted.
- Designing and installing runway beams (tested up to a SWL of 2 tonnes) to replace the need for cranes which could not access the plant area. This facilitated a simpler method of the installation of the support structure, access platforms and stairways prior to the re-installation of the burner test right.
- Dismantling and electrically isolating the burner, before splitting it into six sections and transporting to new site.
- Our electrical engineering division removing all control panels and reinstalling in addition to new thermocouple and instrument cables.
- Our pipework engineering department managing the supply of gas, water and air to the facility. This involved manufacturing and fitting over 200 metres of material such as galvanised steel, mild steel and stainless steel.
- Reinstalling the burner and reconnecting the ancillary plant, pumps and hoppers. An extension to the mezzanine floor, which can be seen in the photographs, was required to support extra pipework.
